Austria is one of the global market leaders in the manufacture of injection moulding machines, which play a crucial role in the production of plastic parts. These machines are indispensable, for example, in the automotive industry, the consumer goods sector, medical technology and many other industries. Three of the most important Austrian manufacturers in this field are Engel Austria GmbH, Wittmann Battenfeld GmbH and MAPLAN GmbH.
1. Engel Austria GmbH
ENGEL, established in the injection moulding industry for over 75 years, has set itself the goal of developing innovative solutions that meet the constantly evolving needs of its customers. These solutions consist of machines, technologies and digital solutions that contribute to the future of plastics processing. The company has nine factories worldwide – from Europe to North America and Asia – and currently employs around 7,000 people in more than 85 countries. ENGEL has internalised the needs of its customers and sees itself as a total solution provider with an extensive range of plastic injection moulding machines with clamping forces from 280 kN to 55,000 kN – in hydraulic, hybrid and electric versions, mounted horizontally and vertically. This also includes completely ready-to-use stock machines and special machines that are manufactured according to individual customer requirements.
Update 2024: ENGEL AUSTRIA GmbH has expanded iits technical centre in St. Valentin, Austria, with one of the largest injection moulding machines from the standard range: the duo 5500 combi M. With a clamping force of 55,000 kN, it is the largest technical centre machine in the world.
2. Wittmann Battenfeld GmbH
The WITTMANN Gruppe, headquartered in Vienna, is a global leader in injection moulding technology. With nine production sites in six countries and 35 subsidiaries worldwide, the company supports the key players in the plastics industry with state-of-the-art, energy-efficient and turnkey production solutions. The extensive range of systems optimises production requirements through precision and efficiency while saving energy at the same time. WITTMANN’s outstanding products include the EcoPower Xpress series, which is designed for extremely high production requirements in high-speed applications with short cycle times. Its clamping force range of 160 to 550 tonnes is both powerful and energy-efficient. The compact MicroPower machine offers precision and ease of use for smaller, more complex components and has an impressive clamping force of 15 tonnes. More versatile models are also available, such as the SmartPower B8X, which combines servo-hydraulic efficiency with GUI control, and the MacroPoower series for applications with clamping forces of up to 2200 tonnes. As a rotary table variant for multi-component applications, the VPower R series has a rotary table diameter of up to 2000 mm
3. MAPLAN GmbH
MAPLAN is a renowned company in the field of elastomer injection moulding machines. In addition, MAPLAN offers integrated system solutions for both semi- and fully-equipped systems for the production of rubber and silicones. MAPLAN has more than 49 years of experience in energy-efficient, reliable technology with adaptable, modular operation for different production requirements. MAPLAN offers horizontal machines specifically designed for the efficient production of high volume parts, vertical machines offering various options for parts with inserts, and special press machines for large format or customised products that cannot be produced using traditional injection moulding techniques. Based on MAPLAN’s solutioons, flexibility, accuracy and productivity can be designed to meet the different elastomer processing requirements of the industry.
