1. Globus Holding GmbH & Co. KG, St. Wendel: 7.8 billion euros in sales

The Globus Group is a leading German operator of family-owned hypermarkets and specialty stores. Franz Bruch opened a general store in St. Wendel in 1828, the nucleus of Globus. The Bruch family still owns Globus. The company employs around 46,000 people. The group owns 84 Globus hypermarkets in Germany (51), Russia (18) and the Czech Republic (15). Globus Holding acts as the common holding umbrella for all business activities. The hypermarket division and the specialty store division are each bundled under their own holding companies – both also headquartered in St. Wendel.

2. Hager SE, Blieskastel: 2.3 billion euros in sales

In 1955, Peter Hager founded an electrical engineering factory with his two sons. This has developed into today’s Hager Group – a group that provides solutions for electrical installations in residential, industrial and commercial properties. In the field of electrical installations, Hager is one of the leading suppliers in the world. The group of companies with its 11,500 employees is represented at 22 locations in 10 countries. In addition to electrical installations, Hager also offers alarm and security technology, switches and switching systems, door intercoms, cable routing and room connection systems for power and data distribution. The Hager Group consists of several dozen subsidiaries. Hager SE acts as the holding company. The Hager Group is in its third generation of family ownership.

3. Villeroy & Boch AG, Mettlach: Euro 801 million turnover

More than 270 years ago – in 1748 – Francois Boch and Nicolas Villeroy founded the company Villeroy & Boch. Even then, it was about the production of ceramic goods and tableware. Today, Villeroy & Boch is the leader in this field in Germany. The company headquarters are located in a former abbey in Mettlach. From here, 13 production sites in Europe and Asia are controlled. Villeroy & Boch sells its goods all over the world and employs over 7,000 people. Now in its third century of existence, the company is still owned by the descendants of its two founders, the von Boch-Galhau and Villeroy de Galhau families.
