1. ABB Asea Brown Boveri Ltd, Zurich: $26 billion in sales.

ABB is a Swiss-Swedish conglomerate with more than 300 subsidiaries, active in power engineering and automation technology. The company was formed in 1988 by the merger of the Swiss Brown, Boveri & Cie. with the Swedish ASEA (Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget). The ABB Group operates in numerous technology-oriented business areas, serving a variety of industries. As a construction supplier, it offers, among other things, process solutions for cement production as well as solutions for the power supply of buildings and the networking of building infrastructure. The group employs around 110,000 people worldwide, including almost 4,000 at its Swiss subsidiary ABB Schweiz AG.

2. BELIMO Holding AG, Hinwil: CHF 661 million in sales

The BELIMO group of companies specializes in technology for heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems. The company’s name is made up of the three components BEraten, LIefern and MOntieren. Sensors, control valves and damper actuators for regulation and control form the BELIMO core business. The company was founded in 1975 in Gossau (Zurich) and moved to Wetzikon in 1979. Nearby Hinwil has been the company headquarters since 1988. The Group employs around 1,900 people and is represented in more than 80 countries worldwide. More than half of its sales are generated in the USA and Europe (especially Germany).

3. Sanitas Troesch AG, Zurich: CHF 558 million in sales

Sanitas Troesch is a leading Swiss supplier of kitchen and bathroom equipment. The company was formed in 1991 by merging the two family-owned companies Sanitas in Zurich and Troesch in Bern. In 2005, the company was acquired by the French industrial group Saint-Gobain. Saint-Gobain is a globally active group of companies in the fields of flat glass, building materials, industrial ceramics, high-performance plastics and building materials trading. Sanitas Troesch develops and sells its products in-house. Manufacturing is carried out as contract production by third-party manufacturers. Sanitas Troesch employs around 1,000 people and has 33 sanitaryware stores and 20 exhibitions in Switzerland. Online sales are becoming increasingly important.
