St. Gallen is the largest city in northeastern Switzerland and is considered its economic center. Not least thanks to the university – one of the leading business schools in Europe – St. Gallen is an attractive business location and home to major companies:

1) LAVEBA Genossenschaft

The LAVEBA Cooperative acts as the umbrella organization and central enterprise of the Landi cooperatives in eastern Switzerland. Most of the region’s approximately 8,000 farmers have joined together in the Landi cooperatives to market and sell their produce and to obtain energy, seed, fertilizer and animal feed at low prices. The history of LAVEBA begins back in 1899 with the founding of a cooperative central office for the joint purchase of agricultural supplies. After several name changes, the name “LAVEBA Cooperative” was chosen in 2019. LAVEBA employed 665 people in 2022 and generated sales of CHF 688 million.

2) M&M Militzer & Münch International Holding AG

M&M Militzer & Münch is an international freight forwarding and logistics group. The company was founded in 1880 in Hof, Bavaria. Especially after World War II, a strong internationalization of the business took place in the direction of Eastern Europe, the Middle East and the Far East. Numerous national subsidiaries were established, which in 1986 were consolidated under the umbrella of M&M Militzer & Münch International Holding AG in St. Gallen. Since 2001, M&M Militzer & Münch has been part and core company of the Transinvest Group, also based in St. Gallen. In 2021, M&M Militzer & Münch employed about 2,100 people and generated sales of 636 million euros.

St. Gallisch-Appenzellische Kraftwerke AG is the definitive energy supply company in eastern Switzerland. In addition to power generation, electricity and heat supply, the company also offers ICT services and is involved in the field of renewable energies and e-mobility. In 2021, more than 420 employees worked at the power plants, and the total output generated in the Group reached just under 363 million euros.
