Place 1: HeidelbergCement AG, Heidelberg: Euro 18.9 billion turnover (2019)

HeidelbergCement is Germany’s largest producer of ready-mixed concrete and at the same time the No. 3 in the world in this sector. The company has around 1470 ready-mixed concrete plants in Germany and abroad. The history of HeidelbergCement began in 1873 as a simple cement plant at Heidelberg. This has developed into a global group for building materials – not only concrete – with almost 60,000 employees.

Place 2: SCHWENK Zement KG, Ulm: 831 million euros turnover (2018)

SCHWENK has been in Ulm since 1847. The family-run company (owner: Eduard Schleicher) is a leading German cement and building materials manufacturer. Cement is the decisive raw material for concrete production. Today, SCHWENK forms a multi-layered group – the SCHWENK Building Materials Group – with numerous participations in independently operating subsidiaries. Cement, concrete, sand & gravel and special building materials form the SCHWENK business. The group has over 3,500 employees.

Place 3: thomas beteiligungen GmbH, Simmern/Hunsrück: approx. 350 million euro sales (2019)

thomas beteiligungen GmbH forms the organisational bracket of the Thomas Group. The family business was founded in 1930 as a civil engineering company and later shifted its business to the concrete division. Today the range of services includes cement and concrete production, concrete components, natural stone quarrying and processing, asphalt production and road construction work. The company has around 60 locations in Germany and Poland and employs around 1,800 people.
