In 1899 Viega started in Attendorn as a specialist company for beer brass fittings. Today, the company is still owned by the founding family Viegener and is a leading manufacturer of heating and sanitary technology. The product range includes sanitary and heating systems, piping systems, connection technology, pre-wall technology and drainage technology. The company has around 4,400 employees. Production takes place in Germany, the USA, Switzerland and China.
Place 2: Wilo SE, Dortmund: 1.5 billion euros turnover (2019)
“Wilo” is a word creation from the initials of the company founder Wilhelm Opländer. At the beginning of the company history there was a copper and brass goods factory in 1872. Today Wilo is a specialist for pumps and pump systems in the field of heating, refrigeration and air-conditioning technology as well as water supply and disposal. Wilo employs around 7,500 people, a third of them in Germany. The company is represented in over 70 countries.
Place 3: Grohe AG, Hemer/Düsseldorf: 1.2 billion euros turnover (2018)
Grohe’s business began in 1936 with the production of bathroom fittings. Fittings and sanitary products still form the Grohe business model today. Originally a family business, Grohe was initially sold to a financial investor in 1999. Today the company belongs to the Lixil Group, a Japanese building materials group. Grohe produces in Hemer, Porta Westfalica and Lahr/Black Forest, as well as in two plants in Thailand and Portugal respectively. The company employs around 6,000 people.
