List of the 3 Largest Electrical Engineering Companies in Baden-Württemberg - Including Revenues

Baden-Württemberg could be considered the country of origin for electrical engineering in Germany. Without bold tinkerers and inventors, the industry would not have its current position. No name represents this better than Robert Bosch. But even beyond Bosch, there are electrical engineering companies of international standing in southwestern Germany. Here is an overview of the three largest. They are also part of our list of the top 200 electrical engineering companies in Germany.

1st place: Robert Bosch GmbH, Stuttgart: 77.7 billion euros in sales (2019)

A backyard workshop for electrical engineering and precision mechanics was the beginning of Bosch‘s history. It developed into a global corporation that today is not only one of the world’s largest automotive suppliers, but it also holds a leading position in other areas. Today, Bosch has nearly 400,000 associates and is represented in some 60 countries.

Electrical engineering remains a key area of focus – for example, through the manufacture of power tools, household appliances, energy and building technology, and industrial technology. In the automotive technology sector, too, Bosch stands for numerous electrotechnical and electronic applications, for example for electric drive systems – a field with a bright future. A new trend in the automotive sector are electric vehicles, which require wallbox installation companies.

2nd place: ZF Friedrichshafen AG, Friedrichshafen: 36.5 billion euros in sales (2019)

ZF Friedrichshafen has evolved from a cogwheel factory and is almost entirely owned by the Zeppelin Foundation, which is administered by the City of Friedrichshafen. The Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH was the godfather of the foundation. ZF Friedrichshafen has been involved in driveline technology for vehicles since its beginnings in 1915.

Originally almost purely mechanical, electrical engineering and electronics now play a major role in drive systems. This is why ZF Friedrichshafen is an important electrical engineering company. It is one of the 10 largest automotive suppliers worldwide, but it also produces industrial technology. ZF Friedrichshafen has almost 150,000 employees and is represented in about 40 countries.

3rd place: ABB AG, Mannheim: 3.6 billion euros sales (2018)

The Swiss electrical conglomerate ABB has its German headquarters in Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg. ABB offers products in the fields of electrification, robotics and industrial automation. The total turnover of the group is 28 billion euros.
