List of the 3 Largest Industrial Companies in Baden-Württemberg, Germany

1st place: Daimler AG, Stuttgart: Revenues of €172.7 Billion (2019)

The world’s first car journey took place in Mannheim in 1886 with the Benz Patent Motor Car Number 1. It also marked the start of a global automotive group in which the two designers Gottlieb Daimler and Carl Benz wrote automotive history. With Stuttgart-Sindelfingen, Stuttgart-Untertürkheim and Rastatt, the Daimler Group has three important production sites in Baden-Württemberg. Daimler AG employs almost 300,000 people worldwide. The three plants in Baden-Württemberg provide almost 60,000 jobs.

2nd place: Robert Bosch GmbH, Stuttgart: Revenues of €77.7 Billion (2019)

The Bosch story began in 1886 as a small workshop for precision mechanics and electrical engineering in Stuttgart-West. Today, Robert Bosch is a global conglomerate with a focus on automotive supply (60 percent share of sales). Bosch also manufactures consumer goods (power tools, household appliances), energy and building technology, and industrial technology. The group is divided into a large number of subsidiaries and has nearly 400,000 associates worldwide. The Robert Bosch Stiftung is the main owner, with a share of over 90 percent.

3rd place: ZF Friedrichshafen AG, Friedrichshafen: Revenues of €36.5 Billion (2019)

The “ZF” in “ZF Friedrichshafen” stands for Zahnradfabrik. The gearwheel production has developed into one of the largest manufacturers of driveline and chassis technology in the world. Although the company is now represented globally at approx. 260 locations, there are close ties to Friedrichshafen. The Zeppelin Foundation, which is administered in trust by the city of Friedrichshafen, owns over 90 percent of the company. ZF Friedrichshafen has approximately 160,000 employees, of which about 50,000 work in Germany and almost 9,000 in Friedrichshafen.
