1. Barry Callebaut AG, Zurich: CHF 7.2 billion sales

The merger of Callebaut and Cacao Barry in 1996 created the new company Barry Callebaut – also the largest Swiss chocolate producer. The company also holds its own in international comparison and ranks among the world leaders in chocolate. Barry Callebaut chocolate products are sold in more than 140 countries around the globe. The Group employs more than 12,000 people. The product range includes cocoa powder, chocolate drinks, cappucinos, milk and non-dairy powders, tea and instant coffee drinks. Barry Callebaut brands are Van Houten and Caprimo. The main shareholder with a 40.1 percent stake is the Zurich-based investment company Jacobs Holding AG.

2. Chocoladefabriken Lindt & Sprüngli AG, Kilchberg: CHR 4.0 billion in sales

Lindt and Sprüngli are traditional names in Swiss chocolate production. Originally two separate companies, they have been going the same way since 1899. Chocoladefabriken Lindt & Sprüngli AG serves as the holding umbrella for the group of companies with 28 subsidiaries and branches. The group employs around 13,500 people. In addition to chocolate bars – preferably in the premium segment – Lindt & Sprüngli also produces pralines, cocoa-based spreads and chocolate-covered seasonal articles (for Christmas, Easter). The company has 11 production sites in Europe and the USA. Distribution is worldwide. The shares are mainly in free float.

Chocolats Camille Bloch is a family business that has been in existence since 1926 – since 1929 as a joint-stock company and since 1935 under its current name, based in Courtelary in the Bernese Jura. The business is characterized by the two well-known chocolate brands Ragusa and Torino. Ragusa – a chocolate bar with praliné filling and hazelnuts – has been on the market since 1942. Torino stands for pralinés with a cream of hazelnuts and almonds. The company also produces liqueur chocolates. Its share of the Swiss chocolate market is around five percent.
