Partners Group in Baar in the canton of Zug is an internationally positioned Swiss investment and asset management company. The company was founded in 1996 by Marcel Erni, Alfred Gantner and Urs Wietlisbach as an independent provider and has been listed on the stock exchange since 2006. Almost one third of the shares are still held by the three founders, the rest is free float. Since the turn of the millennium, a consistent growth and internationalisation strategy has been pursued. Today Partners Group has 20 offices worldwide – including London, New York, Shanghai, Sydney and Tokyo. More than 1,500 employees at Partners Group are dedicated to providing the highest possible returns on investments. Achieving excess returns is the declared goal. According to its own information, the company manages over 96 billion dollars of assets for around 900 institutional investors. Private equity investments are a focal point of the investment activity. In addition to private equity, Partners Group also invests in private real estate, private debt and private infrastructure. The assets under management in the private equity sector account for around 45 billion dollars – almost half of the total assets. Investments are made in direct company and project holdings – preferably in the financial and business services, healthcare, information technology, industry, real estate, infrastructure and utilities, consumer goods, media and telecommunications sectors. Since 1996, more than 240 direct investments with a total volume of 240 billion dollars have been made. Several investments have since been sold at a profit.
One of Partners Group’s most recent private equity investments is the investment in Rovensa announced in mid-July 2020. The Lisbon-based company is a leading player in the field of agricultural biotechnology (BioNutrition, Crop Protection, BioControl) with a focus on Western and Southern Europe, Latin America and Australia. Rovensa is valued at approximately one billion dollars. The seller of the investment is Bridgepoint, another well-known European private equity firm specializing in larger mid-sized companies.
