1. 3i

The London-based 3i Group belongs to the most renowned private equity investors in the world – and also belongs to the largest stock-listed PE firms. The fund was launched in 1946 as a joint venture of British banks. For instance, in June 2022 3i announced that it sold the French healthcare player Havea for €1.1Bn to BC Partners. 3i invests in business & technology service providers, consumer goods companies, healthcare players and industrial firms. The firm is also an active startup investor.

2. Epiris

Another major UK private equity investo is Epiris. Since 2011, the firm has invested over GBP1.6BN and 25 companies. Portfolio companies include animal identification provider Allflex or care firm Appello. In July 2022, the firm announced a GBP1.7bn takeover bid for financial publishing firm Euromoney Institutional Investor. The buyout offer was made together with Astorg.

3. OMERS Private Equity

OMERS is orginally the private equity investment devision of the pension plan of the Province of Ontario, Canada. However, the private equity firm also has an office in London is an active investor on the UK PE market. The firm has in total $19.8BN assets under management and is focused on healthcare, services, industrials and tech investments. In July 2022, OMERS Private Equity announced that it plans to acquire Network Plus. The firm is a leading utility and infrastructure repair provider in the United Kingdom. The Worsley-headquartered firm employs over 5,000 professionals.
