Place 1: Airbus Operations GmbH, €13.3 billion turnover (2017)

The Hamburg plant of Airbus is of great importance for the company’s Commercial Aircraft division. Hamburg Finkenwerder, for example, produces a large proportion of the A320 models produced annually, and final assembly of other aircraft such as the A318, A319 and A321 is also carried out here. In the field of intralogistics, Jungheinrich is an absolute global player. The company focuses on the areas of floor conveyors, warehouse flow technology and material flow technology, manufacturing products such as pallet trucks, forklifts, driverless transport vehicles and radio data transmission terminals. Founded in Hamburg in 1953, the company now employs more than 16,000 people and is listed on the SDAX.

Place 4: Nordex SE, €3.1 billion sales (2017)

The comparative company Nordex (founded 1985) produces wind turbines, erects them and provides maintenance and service. The focus is on onshore sites, the main products being low wind turbines. While Nordex’s administration is located in Hamburg, the company’s headquarters are in Rostock. Further locations are maintained in China and the USA. 5.71% of the shares are held by SKion, the holding company of Quandt heiress Susanne Klatten.
