Below we present the three largest Swiss IT companies that are part of our concise database. This will help you get a feel for the major players in the industry.
1. ALSO Holding AG, Emmen
So sees itself as a technology provider that gives its customers access to a wide range of hardware, software and IT services. The Swiss group is active in 94 countries worldwide and is an IT distributor, consultant and integrator all in one. The Emmen-based company develops customized IT solutions for its customers and has steadily expanded its range of cloud-based services in recent years. With sales of CHF 11.9 billion, ALSO ranks first among the largest IT companies in Switzerland.
Update 2023: Movement at board level at the Swiss IT specialist: Andreas Kuhn is the new CFO as of October 1, 2023, replacing Ralf Retzko.
2. Swisscom AG, Berne
Swisscom AG is not only the largest telecommunications group in Switzerland, but also has a veritable IT business. Around 18,900 employees generated revenues of CHF 11.1 billion in 2020. Its IT services activities are diverse and include IT systems for banks and activities in the field of artificial intelligence.
Update 2024: Swisscom, one of the largest web hosters in Switzerland, is in the process of divesting this division; around 20,000 web hosting customers would be affected. The aim is to integrate this division into the Swisscom subsidiaries Localsearch, MTF Solutions and Global IP Action.
3. SoftwareONE AG, Stans
SoftwareONE, based in Stans in the canton of Nidwalden, is one of the largest software companies in Europe. The company has been listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange since 2019 and primarily supports companies in the management of software licenses. At the core of the company is the PyraCloud platform, through which customers from around the world can access the services of the Swiss. SoftwareONE has a presence in 90 countries around the world and says it employs more than 8,300 people.
