From Ebikon in the canton of Lucerne to Berlin and all over the world
Robert Schindler founded a company in Lucerne in 1874 that initially manufactured agricultural machinery. From 1892, the company shifted to electric elevators. These were particularly in demand due to the hotel construction boom at the end of the 19th century. This business model has remained unchanged to this day. The addition of escalators followed later. Since 1957, the company’s headquarters have been located in Ebikon, just outside Lucerne. With Schindler Deutschland AG & Co. KG in Berlin in 1906, expansion beyond the Swiss borders began.
