Knauf’s history began in 1932 as a gypsum factory in the Saarland and after the Second World War the company was rebuilt in Iphofen in Lower Franconia, initially also with gypsum processing as its core business. Today, Gebr. Knauf KG supplies a wide range of chemically based systems for dry construction, flooring, plaster and façades. The company is family owned. Knauf has approximately 35,000 employees and is active in 86 countries.

Sto originated from a lime works founded in 1835 in Weizen in southern Baden. The descendants of the founder Wilhelm Stotmeister – “Sto” for “Stotmeister” – own 90 percent of the company. Construction chemicals characterise the Sto business. The company supplies paints, plasters, varnishes and floor coatings for construction, as well as thermal insulation. Sto is present in 36 countries and employs over 5,000 people.

From a 1957 improvised cellar business for screws, an internationally active group of companies with over 8,000 employees in 23 European countries has developed. Berner SE is a direct sales company for consumables, tools and workshop equipment. Today the construction industry is the largest customer. Berner supplies, among other things, chemical-technical products, assembly and insulation systems for heating, plumbing and electrical. The Caramba Chemical Group is a separate chemical subsidiary within the Group.
