Place 1: Zur Rose Group AG, Frauenfeld: CHF 1.75 billion turnover
Zur Rose Group is a Swiss drug retailer with a European focus. The company was founded in 1993 by 21 physicians and started with a pharmacy in Steckborn near Frauenfeld. This initially supplied doctors in the region with medicines, and step by step the supply was extended to German-speaking Switzerland. The acquisition of the Dutch mail-order pharmacy DocMorris in 2012 represented a quantum leap. DocMorris prefers to use the online channel to sell medicines, and its main sales market is Germany. Thanks to DocMorris, the Zur Rose Group is the market leader in German mail-order pharmaceutical sales. The Group now employs around 2,500 people.
Place 2: Lidl Schweiz AG, Weinfelden: approx. CHF 1.4 billion in sales
Lidl’s history began in the 1930s with a food assortment wholesaler in Neckarsulm, Germany. This initially developed into a national operator of food supermarkets after World War II. Since the late 1980s, a consistent course of internationalization has been pursued. Today, Lidl is represented in 30 countries with almost 12,000 stores. Lidl Switzerland has been in existence since late 2003, with the first stores in Switzerland opened in 2009. The company now operates 160 Lidl stores in the country with around 4,500 employees.
Place 3: Dipl. Ing. Fust Swiss Household Services AG, Oberbüren: CHF 1.0 billion in sales
Dipl. Ing. Fust is a brand of the Swiss company Swiss Household Services AG. It stands for a Swiss chain of specialist stores in the fields of household appliances, consumer electronics and computers. A second pillar of the business is services in remodeling, new construction and renovation, bathroom and kitchen design. Originally a family business (Fust family), the company has belonged to the Coop Cooperative since 2007. In 2021, the company changed its name to Swiss Household Services. However, the chain continues to operate under the “Dipl. Ing Fust” brand. It comprises more than 150 stores throughout Switzerland with around 2,200 employees.
