In this article three real estate investment managers based in the UK will be discussed. The investment managers included are among the leading players in the British and European markets. All of the firms included can be found on our database of the largest UK real estate investors.
1) Kennedy Wilson (London, United Kingdom)
Kennedy Wilson is a global investment group that specialises in real estate with primary areas of focus including the Western United States, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. The firm is listed on the NYSE (NYSE:KW) with over $23bn of assets under management and a further $2.8bn under development. Its investment management arm acquires and manages properties through several investment funds. Kennedy Wilson adopts a co-investment strategy, leaning onto the firm’s experience to attract potential risk-adjusted returns for its clients. Their clients include financial institutions, institutional investors, insurance firms, developers, pension funds, governments, and family offices. In January 2023, the firm announced funding for three offices in Dublin which required €110m of funds raised.
2) CCLA Investment Management (London, United Kingdom)
CCLA was established through the launch of the Church of England Investment in 1958 and has since become one of the country’s largest charity fund managers. CCLA aims to provide sustainable, cost-effective investments for charities and churches located across the United Kingdom. The London-based has three property funds, including the COIF Charities Property Fund, the Local Authorities’ Property Fund, and CBF Church of England Property Fund. All of the firms share the same general approach which includes assets with above-average rent and short leases as it allows the group to install short-term improvements and increase capital value.
3) Ediston (Edinburgh, United Kingdom)
The Edinburgh-based real estate group seeks investments that provide value at every stage in the life of an asset. Founded in 2004, the firm has since launched the Ediston Property Investment Company, a REIT which is listed on the LSE and has over £357m of assets. Edison primarily focuses on commercial, residential, and mixed-use assets. Ediston acquired a prime real estate asset on Buchanan Street, Glasgow on behalf of Clydebuilt Limited Partnership for £16m.
