Place 1: notebooksbilliger.de AG, Sarstedt: 879 million euros turnover (2018)

Selling smartphones, tablets, PCs, displays and consumer electronics over the Internet – that is the business model of notebooksbilliger.de. The company has been around since 1989, initially under a different name as a software company. It entered the online trade with the site www.notebooksbilliger.de in 2001. This quickly became the main business and since the end of 2008 the company is called notebooksbilliger.de AG.

Place 2: Cyberport GmbH, Dresden: 555 million Euro turnover (2018)

Cyberport was founded in 1998 and offers its customers notebooks, smartphones, televisions and household appliances. The business is mainly conducted through online trading. However, Cyberport also has a stationary pillar – 16 branches in Germany and Austria. In the beginning, the online shop offered only Apple computers. This quickly became one of the largest German consumer electronics providers in the e-commerce sector. Hubert Burda Media already acquired a stake in Cyberport in 1999. Today the company is a 100 percent subsidiary of the media group.

Place 3: ALTERNATE GmbH, Linden (Hesse): 489 million euros turnover (2018)

ALTERNATE was founded as an internet shop in 1992 in Gießen. At that time e-commerce was still in its infancy. This has developed into one of the largest online mail order companies for electronics in Germany. But at ALTERNATE you can also buy tools, garden tools or toys. The company is a subsidiary of SHIFT IT Management GmbH & Co. KG Holding in Linden near Gießen. The group of companies is active in various business areas. In Linden there are also two classic shops.
