Place 1: Dachser Group SE & Co. KG, Kempten (Allgäu): 5.7 billion euros turnover (2019)
In Kempten in Bavarian Swabia, Thomas Dachser founded a small forwarding agency in 1930 to transport Allgäu cheese to the Rhineland. This has developed into Germany and Bavaria’s largest family-owned logistics company. Today, Dachser’s approx. 31,000 employees carry out transports worldwide. Dachser has almost 400 locations on all continents and offers transport in the fields of European logistics, food logistics as well as air and sea freight. Contract logistics is a further business segment.
Place 2: Hans Geis GmbH + Co KG, Bad Neustadt: 1.1 billion euros turnover (2019)
In August 1945, Hans Geis founded a haulage company in Bad Neustadt, Lower Franconia, with a single truck. This has developed into one of the largest logistics companies in Bavaria. Geis employs almost 6,500 people and has 126 locations throughout Europe as well as a fleet of around 2,300 vehicles. The company covers the entire logistics value chain – from land, sea and air transport, warehouse logistics and fulfilment to other value-added services.
Place 3: ARS Altmann AG, Wolnzach: 379 million euros turnover (2018)
ARS Altmann in Wolnzach, Upper Bavaria, is a specialist in automobile logistics. The company was founded in Munich in 1975. Vehicle transport by rail and road has been the business model from the beginning. For this purpose, ARS Altmann has a fleet of around 650 special trucks and 3,000 rail wagons. The company employs around 1,000 people and operates 19 logistics centres in Germany and Europe.
