Place 1: Berlin-Chemie AG, Berlin-Adlershof: 1.7 billion euros turnover (2018)
The origins of Berlin-Chemie go back to a factory for laboratory preparations founded in 1890 in Adlershof. Drugs were developed from 1927. In the GDR, Berlin-Chemie was a leading pharmaceutical company with significance for the entire Eastern Bloc. After reunification, Berlin-Chemie was taken over by the Italian Menarini Group in the course of privatization, to which the company still belongs today. Drugs for the therapy of chronic diseases form the core business. Berlin-Chemie has more than 5,000 employees.
Place 2: Aristo Pharma GmbH, Berlin-Wittenau: 135 million euros sales (2018)
Compared to other pharmaceutical companies, Aristo Pharma is almost a start-up. The company was only founded in 2008. But Aristo’s roots go back more than 100 years. The company emerged from the merger of several medium-sized pharmaceutical manufacturers who wanted to combine their strengths. The company offers a broad range of drugs, has approximately 1,500 employees and has sites in 13 European countries.
Place 3: Dr. Kade/Besins Pharma GmbH, Berlin-Tempelhof: 80 million euros sales (2019)
The company name reflects the company history: Dr. Kade/Besins Pharma is a joint venture between DR. KADE Pharma and Besins Healthcare and was founded in Berlin in 1992. The company describes itself as Germany’s leading specialist for hormone preparations. The product range includes prescription drugs and branded generics for women and men. 80 percent of sales are generated in Germany.
