At least 100 million sales targeted for 2020/21
There are three established methods for corona testing: the classic PCR laboratory tests (now also available in a “rapid variant” on the market), antibody tests and antigen tests. While the laboratory tests are still considered the most reliable means of detecting acute corona infections, but are relatively (time-)consuming to evaluate, the risk of error is greater with the rapid methods, but the evaluation is quick and easy. Antibody tests are primarily used to detect corona infection that has occurred in the past and are therefore less suitable for current evaluation. This is the primary purpose of rapid antigen tests, including the test developed by Siemens Healthineers.
In fiscal 2020/21, the Erlangen-based company aims to generate sales of at least €100 million with this product. The conditions for this are good, because in view of the infection figures, the demand for tests is expected to remain high in the coming months. Siemens Healthineers AG unites the medical technology activities of the Siemens Group, which is one of the largest companies in Germany, under its corporate umbrella. In addition to a broad portfolio of medical devices for examinations, Siemens Healthineers also offers products for medical information processing, laboratory diagnostics and radiation therapies. Siemens Healthineers has existed as an independent corporate unit since 2015. Previously, the medical technology activities were located in various business units within the Group.
