In Germany, mechanical engineering and plant engineering are often combined into one industry. However, plant engineering companies realize entire industrial plants instead of individual machines. Frequently, however, mechanical engineering companies are also active in plant construction. German plant engineering companies are an important part of the local industrial landscape. We present three of the largest German plant engineering companies below.

1. Siemens Aktiengesellschaft

With a turnover of over 60 billion euros, the Munich-based industrial group Siemens is one of the companies with the highest turnover in Germany. Its diverse product portfolio also includes plant engineering, be it the construction of complex energy plants, or hydrogen plants. For example, PEM electrolysers and hydrogen production plants are manufactured in Berlin.

2. thyssenkrupp AG

The well-known Essen-based steel group thyssenkrupp is also a market leader in mechanical and plant engineering. For example, the Group designs, builds and maintains large-scale plants such as process plants or production machinery. thyssenkrupp is also a leading plant manufacturer in the hydrogen business. Group sales recently exceeded the 41 billion euro mark.

3. Voith GmbH & Co. KGaA

Voith, the Heidenheim-based technology group, is divided into the areas of drive technology, hydropower and paper manufacturing. Especially in the latter two areas, plant engineering is a primary concern. High-quality hydropower plants are built, as well as large production plants for paper manufacturing. When new paper plants are built, the focus is on XcelLine paper machines. The Group recently achieved sales of over 4 billion euros.

4. Dürr Aktiengesellschaft

Stuttgart-based Dürr AG is also one of the country’s best-known plant manufacturers. Its focus is on assembly systems for vehicle production, such as paint shops and final assembly lines. The group has already sold over 16,400 of its painting robots; sales also exceed the 4 billion euro mark.

5. Big Dutchman AG

Another weighty German plant manufacturer is Big Dutchman AG from Vechta. The plant manufacturer deals exclusively with feeding systems and barn equipment for pigs and poultry. The company’s products are sold in over 100 countries, and sales recently exceeded the 1 billion euro mark.
