The largest company for surgical microscopes and medical lasers in Germany is Carl Zeiss Meditec AG with sales of around EUR 1.5 billion. Carl Zeiss Meditec AG in Jena was created in 2002 from the merger of Carl Zeiss Ophthalmic Systems AG and Asclepion-Meditec AG. The company is majority-owned by the Carl Zeiss Group, a leading German manufacturer in the precision mechanical-optical industry. Carl Zeiss Meditec – Dental surgery and spine surgery

The business is divided into two areas: Opthalmic Devices and Microsurgery. The Opthalmic Devices Strategic Business Unit offers products and solutions for the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases. These include, for example, devices for measuring the field of vision and tonometers for measuring intraocular pressure or systems for minimally invasive laser vision correction. Technical equipment for eye operations, special lenses and microscopes are also manufactured.

In the Microsurgery segment Carl Zeiss Meditec produces visualisation solutions for minimally invasive surgical treatments. These include surgical and dental microscopes and devices for intraoperative radiotherapy. The products are used in neurosurgery, ENT surgery, cancer surgery, the treatment of vascular diseases, dental surgery and spine surgery, among other things.
