1. Andritz AG, Graz

Andritz AG is not only the mechanical engineering company with the highest sales in Austria, but is also one of the largest companies in the country overall. The plants of the Graz-based Group are used in the pulp and paper industry and the metalworking industry as well as in hydropower stations, solid/liquid separation, and many other areas. More than 27,000 employees work at 280 sites.

Update 2023: Andritz AG completes a change in the Executive Board – however, not due to performance, but due to retirements. Specifically, the two long-standing managers Wolfgang Semper (Hydro Business Area as well as Group Automation & Digitalization and Corporate Security) and Humbert Köfler (Pulp & Paper Service Business Area and Separation) are leaving the Group.

2. Palfinger AG, Bergheim near Salzburg

With over 11,000 employees and 24 manufacturing sites around the world, Palfinger is one of the industry heavyweights in Austria. The crane and lifting solutions of the company from Bergheim are used in particular on commercial vehicles and in the maritime sector. Here, Palfinger describes itself as a global leader. With annual sales of EUR 1.8 billion, the company is the world market leader, especially in the field of loader cranes.

Update 2024: Alexander Susanek is the new COO at the industrial giant. He took over the position on the Board of Management on 01.07.2023. Prior to this, Susanek was Head of Drive Production at BMW Motoren GmbH in Steyr.

3. Engel Austria GmbH, Schwerberg

Engel Austria is one of the most important manufacturers of injection molding machines in Austria. The approximately 6,400 employees of the company from Schwerberg in Upper Austria generate sales of over EUR 1 billion per year. The plastic injection molding machines are used in a wide variety of industries, with the automotive industry being a particularly important customer for the machines. Engel Austria GmbH is completely family-owned and has production plants all over the world.
